What is the Veterinary Feed Directive and How Does It Impact Cattle Producers?
Starting January 1, 2017, a new FDA rule named the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) brings the use of antibiotics, growth promotion and feed efficiency drugs for food-producing animals (cattle, swine, chickens, etc.) under the supervision of licensed veterinarians. This means that VFD drugs can only be obtained using a prescription and fed to treat animals in accordance with the directions for use approved for the drug by the FDA.
Cherokee Feed & Seed has the answers to your VFD questions on the Veterinary Feed Directive page.
